Coldplay went returned to basics for latest album 'Mylo Xyloto' after receiving ''vitriolic criticism'' for their previous record 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends'.

Coldplay start from the beginning has been criticized for his last record, the 'Mylo Xyloto'.

Singer Chris Martin admitted the group felt "very low" the 2008 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends', which left them with "nothing to lose" when making their latest record.

He said: "We got to a very low place on the last record where we felt not very popular. But it was refreshing as it made us start from scratch. A clean slate.

"So many people had made up their minds about us already that we had nothing to lose."

The band frontman also includes guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion - are now "tighter" after receiving "vitriolic criticism" for 'Viva La Vida'.

Chris added: "I'll be honest. On the last album a few things happened that we'd never experienced before, like lawsuits and really vitriolic criticism.

"After all that hurt it makes you tighter and adds fire to everything. It was a closing of ranks".

Guitarist Joe Satriani had filed a copyright infringement against Coldplay in December 2008 after claiming 'Viva La Vida' took elements of his track 'If I Could Fly'.

Coldplay originally 'Mylo Xyloto' acoustic record, but the plan was scrapped when they planned their latest single 'Paradise' was written.

Will explained to The Sun newspaper: "We'd started an acoustic album but then we wrote 'Paradise' and knew the acoustic thing didn't have any legs."

He told UK radio’s Xfm: 'We're waiting for a drumbeat from [drummer] Will tomorrow. Once Will's decided which beat he wants to do on a song – which we don't even have a title for yet – that will drastically speed up the process.'

The first European festival dates of 2011 have been confirmed by the band Coldplay.

The band have been signed up to play the German Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park events, which both take place on June 3-5. Kings Of Leon will also play both festivals.

Coldplay are among the bands rumoured to be headlining Glastonbury Festival next June. They are set for two UK charity gigs next month.

The band are expected to release their new album next year.

Fans for supporting their campaign to save BBC 6 Music from closure Coldplay have thanked, insisting they are "very pleased" to have achieved their aim.

Bosses at the alternative station announced plans to shut the station earlier this year in a bid to save money.
But the news infuriated stars including Lily Allen, David Bowie and Jarvis Cocker, who all backed a campaign to stop 6 Music from being pulled.
The station will now stay open after the corporation's chairman rejected proposals to close it earlier this week - and the Yellow hitmakers are ecstatic at the news.
In a post on Coldplay's official website, the band writes, "You might remember that, earlier this year, the BBC announced its plans to close 6 Music, the wonderful radio station which plays a crucial and unique role in British music. We're very pleased to report that the BBC Trust today rejected the station's planned closure. This was largely due to the enormous public opposition to the plans. So, we'd like to offer heartfelt congratulations to everyone at 6 Music and a big thanks to all of you who took the trouble to contact the BBC Trust and voice your opinions."
Former Pulp singer Cocker, who has his own show on 6 Music, also expressed his joy at the announcement, saying, "It's great that everyone's finally agreed with all the arguments to keep it on air. Gwyneth Paltrow’s six-year-old daughter wants to be “Beyoncé Knowles or a baker” when she gets older.

The 37-year-old actress has two children, Apple and four-year-old Moses, with her husband Chris Martin. Apple is a keen singer and loves bread, and so has decided she wants to be a pop star or a baker when she grows up.

“She’s a good singer, really good singer,” Gwyneth said in an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “She says wants to do concerts like Beyoncé or be a baker so I’m hoping for something somewhere in the middle.

COLDPLAY rocker CHRIS MARTIN has been reunited with a handful of private family photos of him and wife GWYNETH PALTROW after his father lost them on a train.
Matt Fearn railway manager recognised the stars when he looked through the snaps, which he found in the pocket of a jacket belonging to Martin's dad Anthony, who had left the coat behind on a train travelling through Devon, England.
Fearn began looking for relatives of Martin, who hails from near by Exeter, and contacted a local newspaper for help.
Martin's grateful dad Anthony responded - and he's now heaping praise on the honest train employee.
Britain's Sunday Express he tells, "I'm very impressed with the initiative of the lost property office and Matt Fearn in special, who thought to rummage around in the pockets to try and identify who the jacket belonged to when it had no name in it.
"I thank him very much for taking the trouble and now I shan't be in the dog house for losing some rather important family photos."

But they said no way.

The group - consisting of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion - have had several weeks off after spending two months holed up in an abandoned North London church working non stop on the new record.
They are now back at work, and intent on completing their as-yet-unnamed record as soon as possible.
The band members have kept extremely quiet about the style and contents of their new album, but one of their crew members has posted a long message on the topic on the group's website.
The blogger, known only as Roadie #42, said the new tracks are "killer", even though they are not finished.
"The songs haven't assumed their final beautiful form yet but they're a very long way from their skin and bones phase," he wrote. "What's impossible not to conclude is that they have some killer tunes."
Roadie #42 has previously revealed the band had written so much new material, they were struggling to decide what to put on the album.

Coldplay secured a permanent position in Britain's music elite by writing beautiful, simple songs that gently pulled at the heartstrings of a nation. Somewhere in between the confident, vulnerable guitar playing of Jonny Buckland, the melodic bassline of Guy Berryman, thoughtful drumming of Will Champion, and lead Chris Martin's stark, tenor vocals are answers for the soul. Although melancholy stands behind every Coldplay song, each one is also steeped in an unusual and sincere optimism rarely found in English bands. Songs face an inevitable sadness and yearning - a little thing called being real - to get to a better place where the truth held firm in pure emotion is pivotal. Songs like the remorseful "Trouble," with its memorable piano-line, the lonely "Spies" and mega-hit single "Yellow" reveal a hybrid of lyrics that can only be described as joy and remorse, all wrapped into one. Coldplay may have performed one of the greatest ever encores, or so says the charity which benefitted from the English rockers’ largesse last night.

The band performed at a double bill with the Killers late on Wednesday/early on Thursday at a gig following the BRITs music awards in London. While the BRITs was, to put it politely, a somewhat staid affair, the concert was much more rock’n'roll. The Killers stormed through a 45-minute set and the rowdy crowd of 2,000 loved every note. One downer was the nearly hour-long wait for Coldplay, which sucked some of the goodwill out of the air.

They warmed the crowd up again, however, with some older hits including “Yellow”, and then came the interesting bit.

First Coldplay provided the music for Take That’s Gary Barlow as he sang love ballad “Back for Good”, with Martin, one of the world’s biggest rock stars at the moment, on backing vocals. The humble gesture went down a treat. Then to round it all off, Coldplay were joined on stage by Barlow, The Killers, and none other than Bono to sing the finale (The Killers’ All These Things That I’ve Done).

The gig was held to raise money for War Child, a charity aiding child victims of war all over the world. On it’s Website, the charity is daring to suggest it may have been the “the greatest encore ever.

Rivers Cuomo made Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" significantly nerdier when Weezer coveredon wednesday it in New York City (Oct. 28) night. According to Stereogum, Cuomo, clad in a geeky track suit, performed the Grammy Award winning tune before the rest of Weezer joined him on stage for the gig at the P.C. Richard & Song Theatre. Cuomo clearly isn't that familiar with the song, since he had a music stand with the lyrics to "Viva La Vida" set up in front of him, but he made sure to do a lot of hand-waving a la Chris Martin. We aren't sure what Martin would think of Cuomo slapping his own butt to the beat, though. We're also not sure what's with the Tai Chi movements before the bridge of "waaaa-ooohhhhh ohhh ohhh"s at the end of the song, but anyway, it's still hilarious.Weezer's seventh studio album, Raditude, is out Tuesday (Nov. 3).

Muse British rock band was branded the best musical act on the planet at the last night annual Q awards in London, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and Coldplay outdoing other UK rivals.
Arctic Monkeys received the award for the best live act, after a battle which involved Blur, U2 and Take That among other acts, as indie band Kasabian walked away with the title of best album of the year with West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.
The outstanding contribution to music award was given to former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant, who was one of many classic performers honoured by the faithfuls of Q, a pop and rock music magazine published every month and appreciated for its interviews.
Q’s editor-in-chief Paul Rees said the magazine is proud to involve the nation’s music fans who decide on its awards recognising musical excellence and achievement during the past year. He added that, once again, Q readers voted by the thousands.
Rees said that the team at the magazine is equally thrilled to honour the enduring impact of those musicians who have shaped Britain’s musical landscape and still continue to do so today.

20th anniversary Simpsons episode for Coldplay

Coldplay has been announced as particular guests on the 20th anniversary episode of The Simpsons. According to Pitchfork.com, the episode will air on January 14th, 2010. An earlier report by RollingStone.com suggested that in the episode, Homer Simpson hires the band to play privately for him and Bart after he wins the lottery with the band having to stop their performance while Bart goes to the bathroom. Previous musical acts that have made guest show on the long running series include U2, three of the Beatles, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Aerosmith, the White Stripes, the Smashing Pumpkins, Blink 182, the Who and the late Michael Jackson, while Green Day was heavily featured in the Simpsons movie a few years back. This January will mark the 20th anniversary of "The Simpsons". If Bart aged like normal people age, he'd be 30 now. For some reason, this news makes me improbably unhappy. But at least its big 20 anniversary episode to the gig has lined up a pretty big guest. As Coldplay's website reports, the band will appear on the gig's big anniversary episode, airing January 14, 2010. It'll be fun to see what the animators do with Chris Martin's perpetual cowlick. LOS ANGELES -- Court records show guitarist Joe Satriani and Coldplay have reached an understanding that ends a copyright vilotion lawsuit filed over the band's smash hit "Viva la Vida."
Satriani sued Coldplay in December, claiming the band copied "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 song, "If I Could Fly."
Coldplay won a Grammy Award earlier this year for "Viva La Vida."
A federal judge in Los Angeles last week dismissed the case at the request of attorneys for both sides. No details about an understanding were included in court filings, other than each side would pay its own legal costs.
Satriani is a renowned guitarist who has been nominated for numerous Grammys during his career.

The band's promo for Strawberry Swing is accused of using virtually same idea as singer songwriter Dan Gallagher's clip for Something Else.

So soon after settling their plagiarism lawsuit with Joe Satriani, Coldplay have been caught up in yet another creative dispute. According to singer-songwriter Dan Gallagher, there are "striking similarities" between the music video for his song, Something Else, and theirs, for Strawberry Swing.
While Coldplay will breathe a sigh of relief it's the video, not the music under scrutiny, it's far easier to equivalence two gimmicky video clips than two songs' subtle chord structures. And as Gallagher pointed out in a statement, there's no doubt that his and Coldplay's music videos offer "an painful lot of similarities". Or rather, one big similarity: they both gig people interacting with animated chalk-boards.
"I think it's unfair that Strawberry Swing will likely be nominated for numerous awards and is being universally acclaimed as groundbreaking, when (Something Else director) Owen Trevor had virtually the same idea at least a year before," Gallagher said.
Of course, whereas Something Else is a low to mid-budget video using mostly white chalk, brick walls and few props, Coldplay's video is a suitably razzle-dazzle, blockbuster affair, with superheroes, super villains, costume changes and a vivid interplanetary finale. Also: giant squirrels.
Unlike Satriani (and Yusuf Islam), Gallagher concedes that Coldplay probably never saw his video. "I can't say they copied me," he admitted. But when he wrote to the band's arrangment, their glib response was not quite a denial. Coldplay have reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Joe Satriani after the latter accused the band of copying one of his songs.

Satriani sued the band last year claiming that they used "substantial, original portions" of his 2004 song If I Could Fly on their track Viva La Vida. But legal sources told Billboard that a financial settlement between the two parties may have been reached, and Coldplay would not be needed to admit any wrongdoing.
When he originally launched legal proceedings in Los Angeles in December, Satriani said: "I felt like a sticker went right through my heart. It hurt so much. The second I heard it, I knew it was If I Could Fly.

"Almost instantly, from the minute their song came out, my email box flooded with people going, 'Have you heard this song by Coldplay? They ripped you off man'. I mean, I couldn't tell you how many emails I received. Everybody noticed the similarities between the songs. It's pretty obvious."
Coldplay had initially responded by saying: "If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him."
As well as Satriani, Yusuf Islam, the artist at one time known as Cat Stevens, is also reportedly considering taking action against the band for the same song. It is alleged that his 1973 song Foreigner Suite bore resemblance to Viva La Vida. Little known US band Creaky Boards have also accused Coldplay copying their song, again claiming it bore a resemblance to Viva La Vida.
Coldplay, led by Chris Martin, is one of the world's top-selling pop acts. The Viva La Vida single, taken from the album of the same name, was number one in both the US and UK Singles Charts. The album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends also hit number one in the US and UK Album Charts.

NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) A U.S. District Court judge in New York has dismissed guitarist Joe Satriani's plagiarism lawsuit against the British rock band Coldplay, legal records show.
Satriani impeached the group of lifting parts of his song "If I Could Fly" and using them in their hit "Viva la Vida."
However, Coldplay has insisted any similarity between the two songs was "entirely coincidental and just as surprising to us as to him."
Although Judge Dean Pregerson dismissed the case this week, he also suggested in his one page order that the two parties attempt to reach some sort of settlement, E! News reported.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed the band was "really nervous" about playing the UK leg of its world tour, which started on Saturday.
The group played its first UK gig of this year at Manchester's Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
Martin said, "It spirits like we have been away for a long time. The four of us were feeling actually nervous about coming back home,"

Their Viva La Vida tour began in June 2008 and will wrap up on 19 September.

They can thank the audience's placid indifference to his urgent depictions of the world according to a bad lad made good. Jay-Z worked hard, firing out hits such as 99 Problems and Show Me What You Got and getting his guitarist to play The Star Spangled Banner. He finally got his due, leaving to warm clapping.
For all their record sales, Coldplay have little personal magnetism, which didn't bode well for a gig where the wideness of the venue demanded personalities big enough to fill it. Unexpectedly, though, they rose to the occasion, and then some. In this outdoor setting, their many hits, so mopey on record, expanded into magnificent processionals. Who would have guessed he could imbue an acoustic version of Billie Jean sung on a mini stage in the middle of the crowd with double the paranoia of the original?
Was it his idea to use old X Factor picture of Simon Cowell to "critique" the audience when they sang along to Yellow? Martin urged us to bawl out the song, then Cowell appeared on screen, adjudging our effort a "complete and utter nightmare". Equally questionably, he orchestrated a "mobile phone Mexican wave", but redeemed himself by leading the group through a lovely, lilting encore of The Scientist.
"We've done 154 rehearsals around the world just to sound good in Manchester," Martin laughed. How about that? Coldplay in "surprisingly good" shock.

Coldplay may be best known for every thing specially for the heart tugging ballads and mid tempo pop, but their live show transformed softer moments into booming rock songs that are more intense than on record. “Cemeteries of London” played like a modern version of a traditional folk story that swelled to a rhythmic conclusion. “Fix You” created a church-like atmosphere that built to a climax during which Martin twirled like a ragdoll and shuttered as if shot with bullets. And as on the “Viva La Vida” album, “42” morphs from launched piano intro into a spastic rhythmic romp.

At the end of “Strawberry Swing”, the band members weren’t static either they said “God Put a Smile on My Face". Martin sat alone in the centre of the amphitheater for “Hardest Part” as drummer Will Champion echoed his vocals from the stage. Champion proved an indispensable sideman (the Richards to Martin’s Jagger) hitting his kit like a determined wind up toy and singing along throughout the night. He pounded the tympani and bass drum as Martin sprinted back to join in on “Viva La Vida” and “Lost!” They abandoned the stage again for the edge of the lawn where mandolin, resonator guitar, and harmonica set the pace for an acoustic break that included Champion on vocals and guitar and a sincere cover of “Billie Jean.”
The group of the Coldplay took the stage again flashing stark white light on its audience for “Politik” and flying multi colored butterfly confetti into the crowd. Which closes “Viva La Vida,”at the “Death and All His Friends,” fittingly finished the set. Yet the massive hit “The Scientist” was saved for an encore. The triple bill made for an incredibly consistent show capped with Coldplay’s tireless headlining set.
